QUIK is a collaboration between theberrics.com and Quiksilver. It’s a film shot exclusively on the sidewalks and streets of Los Angeles giving an unprecedented look into the world of street skating. Captured entirely from a moving vehicle, the film follows Austyn Gillette as he skates through the neighborhoods of LA’s historic east-side and downtown at top speed.
Don Chadwick: “The camera becomes an extension of your eyes”
About Why Design
At Herman Miller design is the language we use to ask questions and seek answers to the problems our customers face. The design process is a journey into the unknown—or as George Nelson once quipped, “I have never met a designer who was retained to keep things the same as they were.” Before we decide what we do and how we do it, we like to begin by asking the question “Why?” In Why Design, a new video series, we explore the world through the eyes of our designers, and share something of why we value their point of view.
Don Chadwick still has the first camera he ever owned. It reminds him that he sees the world in a different way, with an eye toward pragmatic improvement of people’s lives. His long relationship with Herman Miller has produced many memorable designs, among them the iconic Aeron chair, designed with collaborator Bill Stumpf.
Strongly recommend you watch it in HD and fullscreen. My favorite shot is the Hollywood sign about 34 seconds in.
